Dr Enayet Karim was selected as the Founder President of the Global Development Bank by its Board of Directors on June 1, 2022.  His five-year term began on June 1, 2022.

Dr. Karim previously served as the President of the Global Economist Forum (GEF), a general Consultant Member Organisation of ECOSOC for the United Nations. Dr. Karim represented the GEF in international settings, including the World Bank–IMF, and meetings of the Financial Stability Board for the Economic Cooperation and Development, Investment mobilization, trade expansion, agriculture, education and infrastructure development.

In 2015, Dr. Karim advocated for setting up an alternative development bank, which can in real sense can play role to eradicate poverty and establish technology to set up green industry by virtue to green machinery, as part of a reform agenda featuring sustainable lending practices, more efficient use of capital, and a focus on raising living standards in poor countries. He was also instrumental in advancing the new debt management and operation system.

Before joining the GEF, Dr. Karim was Chief Economist of the World Bank. He served World Bank for about 18 years and took voluntary retirement while he was in-charge of research and development.

Previously, Dr. Karim served as the Superior Service Officer of Bangladesh Government, Vice President of Asia Economic Foundation, Economic Advisor of UN-ESCAP. He focused on an array of economic policy and development issues, including agriculture development, financial improvement of commercial banks, capacity building for higher education, entrepreneurship management, capital increase for bank and non-bank financial institutions.

Dr. Karim obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Dhaka and Ph,D from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. He stood first in CSS examination in the year 2008 with the record highest marks. He was requested to join in Oxford as supervisor for the Ph,D students but he loves to choose the freedom in profession and joined World Bank. He also supervises his family businesses like newspaper, dairy, asset management, and aqua-culture.

Dr Enayet Karim is author of many books including CAMELS Rating, a credit rating and credit assessment theory book, accredited by the World Bank is now the text book in many universities and training institute of different banks across the world. 

Dr. Karim and wife Prof Mahfuja Khanam, a Principal of College, happily married with two sons and daughter.
